About Brenda W. Powell

As a published author whose books have been read and shared in several countries, the greatest story I’ve ever told is still the one of how God’s love and plans for our lives far exceed anything we could ever dream and plan for ourselves.

Likewise, my story begins a bit differently than most authors. I didn’t start out aspiring to be a writer. My degree is in marketing. But then, a series of God-driven events inspired me to reclaim a dream that had long been buried. And that’s where my writing career began. Though I’ve worked in corporate sales for 30 years, my true passions are the work I do as an author, speaker, and songwriter.

I’d often thought about writing a book about my children’s pony. I’m a horse lover who has had the pleasure to own and know firsthand the joy of such a stunning companion. In God’s perfect timing, I was able to create a children’s series titled The Adventures of Sugarman the Pony. The series is not only a dream realized, but it also represents the shift I was able to experience by seeking God’s direction for my life and being obedient when I was given the gentle nudge to move forward. The testimonies I receive from parents and grandparents who tell me the books have helped their children learn and adopt Godly character traits and values inspire me to keep writing. Since launching the Sugarman series, I’ve been invited to speak at multiple churches, schools, and on radio and TV shows including Absolutely Alabama and Praise the Lord on TBN.

But, like most, I’ve had my share of setbacks. However, those setbacks and disappointments were actually steppingstones to some of the greatest seasons of growth in my life. The Lord has healed, transformed, and restored me - and revealed more gifts - through those dark times. He called me for more through music and writing the devotional journal book, Whispers from His Heart, Experiencing the Love of God. Unbeknownst to me, when God prompted me to start journaling, He was writing a devotional through my journal entries. I discovered the purpose was to help others draw closer to Him and experience their own healing just as I have.

Life is full of mountaintops and deep valleys. God continues to teach me how to be an overcomer in Christ when unexpected curveballs knock me down and try to take me out. I feel certain you can relate too. Experience has taught me to never give up for God is faithful and He never changes. His perfect love carries me through every fire I must walk through, always with the Lord by my side. And so, my writing journey continues to give encouragement and hope for you and others experiencing difficult times of loss, tragedy, and disappointments.

I encourage you to open up and believe for greatness in your life. There are buried gems hidden beneath the rubble of past failures, forgotten dreams, and broken hearts. Let God unwrap the gifts, talents, and abilities He designed only for you.
