My Journal

The other day I was washing dishes at the sink, gazing out at the pretty flowers on my back deck while reflecting on different things in my life, when a memory from a couple of years ago floated across my mind bringing my wandering thoughts to a screeching halt. Now, I don’t know about you, but God speaks to me at the most unexpected times. This turned out to be one of those teaching moments of His that got my attention.

Friends, sometimes a word, phrase, picture or song will strike a chord in us that will change the course of our footsteps and help us find our way back to the pathway of life we have somehow strayed from. As we carry on into this year full of great promise, I wanted to share a little piece of my heart that I hope will inspire you along your journey. For just a few minutes, take a look at the rearview tracks of your past.

Memories can pop up at any moment from nowhere land into your peaceful present leaving you questioning, “Now where did that come from?” Well, that’s what happened to me the other day! My mind was actually still for a change, when in floats an image of a time when my husband and I were enjoying one of our evening rides on our horses and saw something very peculiar and definitely out of place.

Don’t you just love this time of year? Spring is around the corner and soon pretty daffodils will sprout their cheery heads. Blooms will open up on trees and shrubs in an exhibition of color that simply takes your breath away. I like to think it is God’s way of reminding us that vibrant life, a fresh beginning, or a brand new start is on the way. A bright adventurous season to celebrate and explore; forgetting the past, and being watchful for the new thing God is preparing and doing.

Throughout life there will be times when you hit roadblocks or rough patches that may alter the path you are currently traveling. Or something happens unexpectedly, perhaps out of your control, that’s devastating, leaving you with your dreams and life as you know it, in a heap of scattered ashes all around you. But remember friends, God promised He would never leave you or forsake you. If you stay connected to Him, you will not lose your way.

I love spring! The excited chatter of birds, new life leafing green on trees and plants make my heart sing in awesome wonder. How about you? As I sit on my front porch, rocking gently amidst an oasis of color, my heart fills with wells of joy from the profusion of blooming flowers surrounding me. While breathing in fresh life, my eyes look down onto the ground below where spent, wilted blooms have fallen, and I can’t help but think that life is a lot like those faded blooms. Bright and cheerful, in full display one moment, then suddenly limp, in a heap of dismay.

Friends are priceless treasures in this world’s jewelry box of glittering gems. And they are as different as the sparkly diamonds, emeralds, and sapphires we choose to wear on our fingers, around our neck, our arms and even our nose! We all have that go-to person or persons we reach out to when we’re struggling, feeling blue, or just having a downright bad day. But there are also times when we recoil inside ourselves when troubled times are doing their best to pull us under and bury our joy.

Oh, My child, I see you running to and fro, frantic in your efforts to help Me make things happen. How many times will you go around that mountain of unbelief? Yes, unbelief! That may surprise you, but it’s true. You have a part to play in the symphony of life, but when you try to play all the instruments, rather than your own, well, the sound is loudly off tune and unpleasant. I am the Master Conductor and I strategically place people and events in their own seats in the orchestra of your life. Your zeal and passion are commendable, but when they consume you, your sound becomes off key and affects the composition of the soundtracks of your life.
